In this session we'll explore how to immerse your youngest learners in engaging language and literacy experiences throughout the school day in order to improve student achievement. Reimagine the “traditional storytime routine” to fit the needs and interests of a variety of learners through collaboration with related service providers. Come and see how exciting and engaging books can be when they leave the page and come to life!

Participants will discover the importance of the BIG 6 and how to apply their knowledge using picture books throughout the daily routine. They will understand how these six literacy skills impact reading and spelling proficiency. This workshop will demonstrate a picture book and thematic unit to integrate the BIG 6 literacy skills with explicit instruction and multisensory activities. During the session, participants will use the framework to create an additional thematic unit in a small group activity.

The Right to Read film shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.
