Singing to the Choir: Support for Young Families of Children with Disabilities
Thursday October 10, 2024 9:05am - 10:35am HST
SPIN - the Special Parent Information Network, has been supporting families, and the professionals who work with them, for 40 years, but many in Hawaii still don't know about us. We'll cover the basics of what SPIN does in our community, provide insights on what families need during transition to special education and how to support them, and where to access resources, information and support systems in our state.
Participants will:
  • learn where to find tools, resources and information, that are useful to both families, teachers and community providers
  • recognize the importance of parent-to-parent support and connections
  • understand the importance of preparing early intervention families for the shift from a family-centered program in natural environments to an educational system with a student focus.
